How my College Expectations Shattered during my Undergraduate Degree.

Going into college, everyone has a set of expectations. Certain type of campus, certain types of friends, certain types of activities — and then BAAM — reality hits. You realize it is not like those KJo films we have become so used to watching.

College is ugly. It’s real. It’s hardcore — all this is true to the fact that you actually want to do something and make something of yourself and not spend your days high on life and living each moment as a last. In case that’s you, that’s also fine — you do you!

But as a person, who puts a lot of pressure on herself to be better each day, to keep everyone happy, and to always stand out and deliver beyond expectations- for me college was an eye-opener.

◙ I entered college as a people pleaser — I exit as someone who realizes you don’t have to make everyone happy to be happy yourself.

◙ I entered college as a hardcore perfectionist who did everything on her own — I exit with a realization that delegating is one of the hardest but most important tasks of a leader.

◙ When I entered college I only focused on my work and not personal life — I exit as someone who is okay being a little selfish and knows nothing is worth sacrificing her health and mental peace for.

◙ I entered as someone who wanted to be friends with everyone — I exit knowing it’s always better to be friendly with everyone but trust only a few.

◙ I entered as someone who was eager to learn and grow and stand out from the rest — I exit as someone who is still eager to learn and grow and stand out from the rest.

Everything can’t be all that bad.

So, for everyone starting their college journey or in the middle of it — do things that make you happy, that aid your growth, and help you fulfill your future aspirations. Only you know what you want and only you can work to make it happen (:
