Do you Journal?

I realized I was journaling without even consciously doing so. In the recent “self-care” fad, one tip that stands out dominantly is “Journaling.” And even though I love writing, it was one thing, I “I thought” I couldn’t do.

Why?

  1. Inconsistency — I couldn’t sit every day for a dedicated time to write down my emotions.
  2. Not in tune with my emotions — I wouldn’t call myself an emotional person. I am certainly not bursting with emotions every day. So what would I write about?
  3. Distracted — There always seemed to be more important things to do than sit down and write.

But, I realized, that was just traditional journaling. Journaling is documenting your thoughts, positive or negative, at the time you are feeling overwhelmed or have a heightened wave of sentiments, which you may or may not visit later.

and I realized I have been doing that all along.

  1. Be it on my Twitter, where I share smart, snarky comments that pop in my head throughout the day.
  2. Whether my Phone notes app, where I jot down any/all ideas I get, hoping I might be able to make content out of it.
  3. Be it on Notion, when I am trying to write a lengthy article/listicle (much like this one).

And I realized I become peaceful after I do so. After I put the ideas in my head on paper (or my laptop/phone screen), I feel stress-free. I am not going to forget, I can revisit and see if it’s actually worth sharing/keeping or I end up discarding it. But now that my mind is free of those musings, I can move on to new things!

Modern Journaling at the tips of your fingers.
